I’ve always loved April Fool’s Day. It’s my favorite day to begin new journey. Not because I am any sort of a jokester, far from it. In my mind it’s a time to mix it up, try something new, observe from a new perspective.
Two years ago I decided to blow up my life. To lean into the idea that to live a creative life means to live life creatively. After a lifetime of measured steps and sound financial decisions that pushed my creative practice to the margins of my life, I quit the job, sold the house and moved into a tent on a friend’s land, hoping that I could buy enough time to figure out how to make a living making things that I love to make.
If I’ve learned anything, it’s that the first draft is never the final concept. It’s a starting point, nothing less. It wasn’t until I took my toe out of the doorjamb and let the door close behind me that the world opened in ways I never expected. I am forever thankful for those cold chilly nights on the mountainside, bathed in the warmth of true friendship. Here’s to you, Kelly. Happy April Fool’s Day.
